Lt. Col. Douglas R. Shipman Information
Location
Al Kasik
Address
LTC Douglas Shipman
Task Force Olympia
CMATT - Al Kisik
APO AE 09334
Note: this address may change!
Updates
9-28-05 Col. Shipman is safely home!
###
12-26-04 We heard from Doug yesterday by phone. He is now in al Kasik.
Christmas was a working day for him, though he and his fellow soldiers did have
Christmas dinner with the Australian contingent also stationed at al Kasik.
Unlike Mosul, al Kasik doesn't have a PX. So, packages
from home are particularly welcome!
###
12-24-04 Task Force Olympia HQ, where Doug is working, was not the
target of this week's suicide bombing. He has sent word that he is fine, however
there were soldiers from his unit at the base that was attacked, and some of them
are among the killed and wounded. Doug was going to be visiting that base a day
or two ago to assess the situation. Latest word is that, if trasportation is
available, he will be traveling back to al Kasik Real Soon Now.
###
12-18-04 Doug is still working in Mosul. He sent the picture at right --
a friend took it when they were flying in a Blackhawk from al Kasik to Mosul
back in November.
Please note the updated address above!
###
12-6-04 Claire has passed along Doug's movie wish list. He purchased a
personal DVD player at the PX in Mosul, so he's looking for some good things to
watch! On the wish list are:
- the Harry Potter series
- King Arthur (the new one that was released this summer)
- Last of the Mohegans
- Merlin
- Tomb Raider I
- 13th Warrior
To avoid duplicates, he has (or Claire is sending him): Lord of the Rings I, II &
III, The Last Samurai, Bladerunner, Lara Croft - Tomb Raider II, Braveheart and
Excalibur.
Claire adds "and, I'm sure any others that folks think might interest him given
the themes above - more into Action/Adventure/Martial Arts. They don't have to
be 'new' movies either, I purchased a couple at the video store 'previously
viewed' they work fine!!!"
If you do get something off the wish list, please let me know so that I can mark
it off!
###
11-24-04 Mom emailed Doug aking what sort of supplies he could use the most.
This is the list: ground coffee (esp. Starbuck's Breakfast Blend), sugar, creamer,
snack food, breakfast bars, instant foods like mac and cheese, other like items.
Also things like soap, antibacterial hand cleaner, instant hot chocolate, and
chocolate bars, etc. etc.
If you'd like to contribute, please get in touch with
Nancy or
Claire.
###
11-15-04 Doug has arrived (by Blackhawk!) in Mosul.
''My new temporary assignment is in one of the Hussein family's palaces - apparently
one of Uddai's love shacks. Hmmm... well the food is good, even if the decor is not!''
###
11-14-04 Doug is currently at the base in Al Kasik but is not staying long.
''I am bound for Mosul, perhaps tomorrow, to serve as an LNO [liaison officer] with
one of our operational units for a few weeks...''
He is to be a liaison with Task Force Olympia, which is the unit that operates
the Strykers based in Mosul.
